Manchester United confirmed the signing of Argentinian winger Ángel di María from Real Madrid earlier this evening. The signing is a British transfer record coming in at £59.7 million and showing the Old Trafford clubs lure for world-class players, it also buys some time for executive vice chairman Ed Woodward, who made a fool out of himself earlier in the summer by suggesting that things were going on behind the scenes and to “watch this space”.
Eventually the signing was completed, which will please many supporters, but more signings are needed this summer, especially in defence and midfield. Di Maria joins fellow countryman Marcos Rojo at the club and both could make their debuts against Burnley in the Barclays Premier League on Saturday, although Rojo is still waiting for a work permit to be issued, which should be done by the end of the week.
