Louis van Gaal’s Netherlands side faced Australia on Wednesday evening. Both teams made the game more interesting in their second game in Group B of the Fifa World Cup. The Oranje came out on top in the very exciting game that finished 3-2 to in the Dutch sides favour, which would put them ion the driving seat to reach the knockout stages with Australia virtually crashing out of the World Cup. Memphis Depay, the PSV Eindhoven forward who has been linked with a move to Manchester United, played 45 minutes managing to grab a goal in the 68th minute with a cracking strike from outside the box.
Depay came on in the second half for the injured Bruno Martins Indi and made an impact straight away with some great attacking runs from the wing with some great skill to beat his opponents. It was a decent game by the young Dutch forward who managed to have one shot that resulted into the winning goal, he completed 79% of his passes, He won 50% of his tackles and won 100% of his aerial duels. He was involved in the equaliser with a brilliant run that eventually fell to United striker Robin Van Persie. Depay then showed his class with a great turn past the player and then took a shot from outside the box the beat the Australia keeper from 30 yards to put his side ahead for the second time in the match.
Depay was the key player that changed the game when he came on as a substitute. He helped out defending when he needed to but he attacked with some real pace and flair down the flanks and the middle to exploit Australia’s defence but overall a brilliant performance from the the young Dutch forward.
