Profile

Larnell Cole is an attacking midfielder, primarily right-sided, but able to adapt to a number of different positions.

Although the Manchester-born youngster is of slight build, he is skilful, quick and capable of making an impact on the game. He is a team player with qualities to make an individual difference in matches.

Cole, no relation to former United striker Andy, has repaid the coaches’ faith in his ability by gaining in strength and confidence as he works his way through the ranks and was short-listed for the Reserves’ Player of the Year award.

There were a lot of proud people at Carrington when he was awarded his first England call-up at any level – for the Under-19s in August, 2011 – and Warren Joyce has been pleased with the way he has knuckled down to learning his trade, even playing at full-back to iron out any deficiencies in the defensive side of his game.

A first-team debut, in the Carling Cup victory at Leeds, was just reward for his progression and dedication to the cause and he will hope for more opportunities to impress after suffering a couple of injury lay-offs.

After being disappointed with his goal return, he improved in that area towards the end of the 2011/2012 campaign and finished with four goals in 20 matches. However, his best strike came in the United States when he blasted a sublime volley into the Tigres net during the Dallas Cup.
