PREVIEW: Inter Milan v Manchester United – Guinness International Champions Cup

Manchester United play their third pre-season match of their USA Tour in the early hours of Wednesday morning here in the UK (19:30 EDT). This will also be their second match in the Guinness International Champions Cup. In both matches already played, United have scored 10 goals, conceding two, which is not all that bad. LA Galaxy (7-0) were the easiest opposition, with AS Roma on Saturday proving to be tough as it took United some time to take the lead, with Roma scoring a spectacular goal and a penalty in the second half. Considering the season United ended in May, they have come a long way in a few months and seem to be looking positive once again.

United face a former player in the Inter Milan squad. Nemanja Vidić, who left the Old Trafford club in the summer completed a free transfer to the Italian giants in January, which is a big loss and a massive gain for Inter. Vidić was one of the players that helped Inter find an equaliser against Real Madrid in California on Saturday evening, even scoring his penalty after the 1-1 draw. I am sure Vidić will be excited to face his former club for the first time, albeit in a pre-season friendly.

United, under Louis van Gaal seem to be rejuvenated. The 5-3-2 variation formation seems to work, so far, which could suggest the way that he ensures his squad play in during the Barclays Premier League, which starts in little over a fortnight, and I personally cannot wait to get back to winning way in the league, presumptuous I know, but I have not seen much so far that suggests last season was anything that will stick with the squad. A few more signings will ensure the side is at full strength ahead of the new season.

United do have a talented squad. Currently the player on tour are doing well but I am looking forward to seeing Robin van Persie join the squad and join forces with Wayne Rooney, both leading the line, with Juan Mata just behind. That will be a great attacking lineup and I feel it will work very well. Ander Herrera is another player that excites me. He has done so well in the matches he has played for the club, and providing he gets the chance again in the early hours of Wednesday morning, he will do well again. He seems to click with Mata, and the rest of his new team-mates. I would like to see him paired with Darren Fletcher in central midfield, as they seemed to do well against LA Galaxy, but seeing them play week against a team like Inter Milan will show so much more.

The match will be shown live on MUTV HD here in the UK, a channel you need to be a subscriber of. If you are not, do not panic as you can purchase the match online with United Live, which is effectively MUTV online, which seems to have disappeared over the last few months. The individual match costs £2.99, or there is a pre-season pass for £5.99, but with only the Inter Milan match and the Valencia match at Old Trafford left (which are being shown on United Live), you save a whole penny buying matches separately.
