Manchester United were beaten 4-1 by Liverpool in the International Champions Cup in Ann Arbor, Michigan. Liverpool won two penalties in the game, the first scored by Sadio Mane. Andreas Pereira scored the equaliser from an impressive free-kick before Xherdan Shaqiri putting Liverpool ahead in the second half. Another penalty, through Oluwaseyi Ojo, saw United 3-1 down with Shaqiri scoring a spectacular goal to win the game 4-1.
Liverpool created a lot more in the match, which was partly because of the players they had in the first half, with United missing many first team players because of injury and the FIFA World Cup. Andreas Pereira’s free-kick will be the main thing to remember from this match, something to boost the confidence of the youngster ahead of what will be an important season for him.
Alexis Sanchez did not get as much luck as he did against Milan, although he did have a chance to claw back a goal, despite bring 4-1 down at the time, missing the target completely. I am sure Mourinho will not be too caught up in the defeat, it being a pre-season fixture with nothing more than fitness to worry about. Of course, it is never good seeing United lose, but let the Liverpool supporters brag and get carried away here.
