Ratings: Harrop, Tuanzebe and O’Hara the ones to shine for Manchester United

Manchester United were beaten 3-1 by Chelsea in Aldershot on Friday evening in the final game of 2016 in the Premier League 2. United took the lead through Axel Tuanzebe in the twentieth minute of the match with a header from a corner, and United did have a few chances either side of the goal. Chelsea got back into the game in the first half, taking the lead for the first time just after the break. A third goal would come in the 90th minute of the match, with Chelsea convincingly beating United, putting their season on a rocky road once again. United have some good players at this level, but with Ashley Fletcher leaving the club, Andreas Pereira, and Adnan Januzaj away on loan, a lot of talent has been removed from the side.

If you also think about the fact that Timothy Fosu-Mensah and Marcus Rashford were also meant to be part of this team, you see that the U23’s have been left with some good players, but no end product. A striker is one of the main things missing. James Wilson was sent out on loan this season, returning injured and will miss the remainder of the season. Will Keane was sold, having his season ended by injury at Hull, so options really were limited this season. The U18’s are playing well, but breaking them up at this stage could be disastrous for their development, which leaves one option for United, using the January transfer window to fill the holes in the side this season.

Manchester United

45 Kieran O’Hara

Conceded a goal in the 30th minute, but did well both before and after the Chelsea goal. Saved a penalty in the 36th minute of the match, not the greatest penalty, but that does not matter. Unlucky to concede again early in the second half.

Matthew Olosunde

Started well United playing three at the back. Got clattered in the middle of the first half, but was fine. Seemed good on the ball and reading the game.

38 Axel Tuanzebe

Scored the opening goal for United on the 20th minute with a great header from the corner. Defended well for United, but failed to stop Chelsea from equalising, thinking he had done enough to prevent the goal, which was then scored.

Regan Poole

Did what was needed in defence, protecting the back line. Was unfortunate to be on the losing side, despite looking the part at times. Chelsea just had a little more to throw at United.

Charlie Scott

Had a good game, despite the result. Played his part at times, something the player will learn from.

Got himself booked in the second half, but other that that had a good game. Good on the ball, getting to grips with the game again after his lengthly injury lay off.

Devonte Redmond

Had a good game in spells. United were just unable to deal with what Chelsea threw at them. Unlucky at times, but should be a good learning curve for the team.

35 Demetri Mitchell

did well on the ball, tried to create for United and get forward throughout the match. Unlucky as should have been awarded a penalty, which it the story of the game for United tonight.

Matty Willock

Gave away a penalty on the 36th minute of the match, luckily it was saved.

Ratings: Harrop, Tuanzebe and O’Hara the ones to shine for Manchester United

Brilliant player. Great on the ball, getting into the right zones. Will be unhappy with the result, but it is not his fault his team is short of options.

Scott McTominay

Had a good game. Looked to have been injured early in the match, but he came back on after treatment. Unable to help United get back in front after going behind. Replaced by Doughty.

Tosin Kehinde

Replaced Willock. Did not really make an impact in the match.

Josh Doughty

Replaced McTominay. Made his second appearance at this level. Not a good time for him to come on with Chelsea looking rampant.

Aidan Barlow

Replaced Scott. The score was 2-1 when he was waiting to come on, Chelsea made it 3-1 just before he entered the pitch. Not enough time to get involved in the match.
