Ratings: Five star performance for Marcus Rashford as United score five past LA Galaxy

As the Manchester United pre-season tour begun, the squad played its first match against LA Galaxy. Rather than the result the most important were the preparations of course. Jose Mourinho had warned before that he’d set up two different lineups for both halves and had also confirmed that goalkeepers playing would David De Gea and the one he refers as the ‘kid’ Joel Pereira. This tour is all about giving chances, to some their final, while others to prove the manager their place remains at United.

In an unusual kick off time in Europe, but so familiar whenever United goes on tour in the States, Manchester United defeated LA Galaxy. Their last encounter ended up being a terrific joy as the locals were beaten 7-0 in Ander Herrera’s first ever match with the club.

The game started in style for United as Marcus Rashford scored a lovely and kept terrifying the defence. A great link with Jesse Lingard helped as well as the player was doing pretty well so far. A combination between Herrera, Juan Mata and Marcus Rashford for the second was a masterpiece as well and the Rashford is definitely gutted for not scoring a hat-trick. A place on the score sheet for Marouane Fellaini as well as he kept affirming a good moment. 3-0 in the first half with United and Mourinho comfortably changing the entire lineup in the second half.

Henrikh Mkhitaryan kept looking for the ball and Anthony Martial who had a terrific game added one assist in his account so he could later be served from Timothy Fosu-Mensah to get one himself as well. LA Galaxy scored two past young Joel Pereira who was not at fault for conceding as surely some help from the defence. There wasn’t meant to be a goal debut for either of United’s new signings but there were some good sparks from both of them.

However, United won 5-2 in their first preseason game and here are the player ratings for this morning’s game against LA Galaxy:

Manchester United

1 David De Gea

It's safe to say that he was there. Had absolutely nothing to do during the entire half. The only time we saw him on the screen was the time the m fans in the stadium cheered him. He was well covered today. Still on holidays.

12345

4 Phil Jones

The English some really good clearances when given the chance, won the ball back in a tough position. Overall it was a positive game from Jones who seems to have been treated well over the summer. As long as he remains fit, things go well.

12345

12 Chris Smalling

Scored, but was denied by the flag that was up after Carrick took his chance first on scoring. Besides that, he helped with two or three good clearances. This side doesn't seem to be a problem for Smalling. Good game overall.

12345

17 Daley Blind

Had an issue early in the half, but maintained his usual work up after that episode. Moved well during the game, comfortable in a back three.

12345

25 Antonio Valencia

He is one of those players who can't make a difference if it's a friendly or not. Hardworking as usual, an incredible link with Mata as well. Owns terrific pace, another great game from the Ecuadorian. As put by the MUTV commentator, Jose Mourinho wants another Antonio Valencia.

12345

21 Ander Herrera

Important piece in the two goals United scored. Won the ball nicely, drifted past Mata and Lingard in the other one. Still up on taking control, really good leader who hides after the captain. Terrific blocks, all set and done. Special game for him, made his debut against LA Galaxy.

12345

16 Michael Carrick

Class whenever he touches the ball. Club captain, deservedly, a footballing brain. In the game, Jose preferred him right before that back three and he did pretty well. Given the side United were playing he had the time to keep the ball and administrate really well.

12345

27 Marouane Fellaini

Scored one goal, a terrific one. Kept moving well and was the main target on the crosses that are being delivered mostly from the free kicks. Keeps doing the same as in the last season.

12345

14 Jesse Lingard

When you think it well, with all the issues, I'd argue that he has changed. He moved well on the left today and that was some quality pass for Marcus' goals. Good link with Herrera. He has to maintain the moment.

12345

8 Juan Mata

Another footballing brain, absolutely steals the show in the number 10 position. He was all over the place and he doesn't mind playing greatly with passes towards Marcus or Valencia. He had his chance to score, but it went high.

12345

19 Marcus Rashford

Gutted that he didn't get to score a hat-trick. He seems to have added muscles, yet that pace hasn't been lost. Actually is more terrifying than ever, ask the LA Galaxy defence. Absolutely stunning, decent contender for the striker position and a healthy competition wouldn't hurt anyone. Brilliant.

12345

Substitutes

40 Joel Castro Pereira

Galaxy scored two past him, but he made a terrific save to deny Alessandrini to get a second for the home side. Caught a bit off guard in their second, but wasn't at fault for either goals. Still has a lot to do and shouldn't be upset at all.

12345

2 Victor Lindelof

A bit in fault for Galaxy's first, but what remarkable tackle few minutes later. He had a chance to score in his debut, but that ball went way far from the post. The Iceman did well, yet that's just his debut. Comfortable in a defence of three, even better with four.

12345

3 Eric Bailly

Didn't have anyone to scare this time, however, his figure was indeed one that held weigh in the zone. A bit messy and chaos in both goals and didn't have much to do.

12345

36 Matteo Darmian

Two or three incredible runs through the middle, something unusual for him, good work on the left. Switched sides with Demetri Mitchell later on. He has some points to prove, this was just the first game.

12345

38 Axel Tuanzebe

Kept things going well, a bit scared when LA Galaxy landed in the zone, but nothing serious to worry about. Needs time as well to be affirmed as a senior.

12345

6 Paul Pogba

He keeps delivering, but no one actually notices. It's amazing but baffling how that happens, but his fine moves are incredible. He should be appreciated for what he does more often. Captain's armband in the second half, shows that Jose has big plans for him.

12345

Andreas Pereira

Desperate to convince, he obviously needs a bit of time and patience. Shouldn't be affected by what happens around, just needs to focus. Plenty of matches to prove that he is actually good.

12345

22 Henrikh Mkhitaryan

He was looking for the goal, he got the goal. The Armenian version of Speedy Gonzales indeed. As it has been noticed last season, his place is in the number 10 position as he just loves moving through the middle and getting the job done. The Armenian seems to love those long runs from the centre of midfield.

12345

24 Timothy Fosu-Mensah

Great minutes, hope his substitution was all planned and there's nothing serious from all of this. Great link with Pogba and a wonderful assist for Martial's goal. Definitely, should be taken under consideration as a possible Valencia substitute.

12345

9 Romelu Lukaku

Needs time to adapt, this is not a race. He is Mourinho's chosen one and has a name to up to it, waiting for the right moment. There seems to be a connection with Martial, let's see how it goes.

12345

11 Anthony Martial

Just showed that he doesn't even care what the media are saying for a possible deal with Inter Milan. He scored and assisted. The American air has changed his atmosphere as he is all smiles and he is scoring and assisting. The French wanted another go, two other really good chances and nice link with Lukaku.

12345

35 Demetri Mitchell

Came in for Fosu-Mensah. Struggled a bit, but overall was good. Didn't have much time to do a lot, but that quite well.
