RATINGS: Manchester United 4-0 Norwich City

Norwich Ratings

David De Gea: Played well in the win but didn’t really have a lot to do to be honest, he made one good save from Johan Elmander and pushed it out  for a corner and he also punched out every corner that Norwich got in the game. 7

Phil Jones: Filled in at right back he didn’t really have any trouble from Norwich because they didn’t attack a lot but he supported the attackers managed to get an assist with Juan Mata’s first goal. He defended well when Norwich did attack. Overall the performance was okay. 6

Rio Ferdinand: Played well at centre back he cleared mostly everything that came towards him and was dominant in the air when Norwich done a long ball. Not bad considering he has not played since the start of the month. 6

Nemanja Vidic: Decent performance in the victory. He wasn’t really troubled really but dealt with mostly everything that Norwich did to try trouble United with. He could have some action forced against him because it looked like he head-butted Robert Snodgrass. Vidic will leave a void in the squad next season. 6

Patrice Evra: Good performance at left back after recovering from an injury which kept him out last weekend. He defended well when he need to with some great challenges and attacked well and started off Mata’s second goal with a fun down the left wing. 6

Antonio Valencia: Put in a good performance in the victory and was involved in every attack that lead to the goals in the match. He got an assist off Mata’s second goal when he shot just outside the box on the right and Mata headed the ball into an empty net. 7

Michael Carrick: Had a decent game in the middle of the park today and really cut off Norwich with some decent tackles and really controlled the game in midfield and kind of dictated the play. 7

Tom Cleverley: Started alongside Michael Carrick and did help cut Norwich off when they attacked. He played tried getting forward a lot but overall had an okay performance. He still is not the player United need, in my opinion anyway. 5

Shinji Kagawa: Was involved in mostly all the attacks in the game and could have grabbed a goal but hit the side netting. He played a part in one of the goals and overall played well. 7

Wayne Rooney: Brilliant performance. Bagged two goals, one from a penalty and one from a cracking strike from outside the box. he could have completed his hat-trick but his shot was blocked by Norwich defenders and ended up on the roof of the net. Dropped back into a deeper role for much of the second half, with Mata and Hernandez leading the attack. 9

Danny Welbeck: Had a couple of chances to score and got the penalty that led to the first goal. He could have opened the scoring early on with a shot from inside the box but it was brilliantly saved by John Ruddy and also he also caused a lot of defensive errors by Norwich City with his pace. 7

Juan Mata: Replaced Danny Welbeck on the hour and bagged two goals to kill the game completely. His goals were taken well and were sort of a poachers goal by being in the right place to put past the Norwich City goalkeeper. He changed the game when he came on and United kept the ball more and he sort of dictated the play for the 30 minutes he played. 9

Ashley Young: Replaced Shinji Kagawa in the 65th minute and played alright but didn’t really do a lot he had a couple of chances outside of the box that were close but wasn’t close enough to trouble John Ruddy in goal for Norwich City. 5

Javier Hernandez: Javier Hernandez came on as a substitute in the 71st minute and played okay. He should have scored with a lovely ball through the Norwich City defence and he narrowly missed the target. 5

Ryan Giggs: It was a good first win and match for the interim manager. The player’s performance during most of the first half was not the best, but the penalty spurred them on, as did Giggs from his technical area. The half time team talk did the job as the players were more clinical from the start of the second half, doubling their lead within three minutes and building on it from there. Giggs made the right substitutions at the right time. He will be disappointed in Javier Hernandez for missing a sitter. 8
