Ratings: Manchester United 5-2 Galatasaray – Pre-Season Friendly 2016

After a poor result against Borussia Dortmund, Manchester United was looking to make a strong impression versus Turkish outfit Galatasaray in Gothenburg. The perfect start was provided by Zlatan Ibrahimovic on his return to Sweden and his Manchester United debut with a spectacular bicycle kick after four minutes. Galatasaray enjoyed the last 20 minutes of the first half as they dominated possession and scored twice through Gumus and Bruma. Rooney then got on the end of Valencia’s cross and equalised, then made it 3-2 to United as he converted from the spot after Muslera brought down the young Marcus Rashford after a terrific run. Fellaini added a fourth goal with a looping header from another Antonio Valencia cross, his 3rd assist of the night, before some silky play from Juan Mata made it 5-2 to United completing a fantastic second half and a well-earned win against decent opposition. Below is a list of the player ratings from tonight’s 5-2 win.

Manchester United

David De Gea

1 David De Gea

Hard to criticize as he didn't have a great deal to do and couldn't stop either goals. Made two good saves before coming off at half-time.

Antonio Valencia

25 Antonio Valencia

Excellent going forward providing 3 assists and didn't get beaten on the outside defensively, solid performance.

Eric Bailly

3 Eric Bailly

Another strong performance and saved a few blushes with a good one-on-one challenge, still got a way to go but is shaping up to be an excellent defender.

Daley Blind

17 Daley Blind

Didn't have a great deal to do but was caught napping once or twice and did turn his back to the shot from Bruma for Galatasaray's second goal.

Luke Shaw

23 Luke Shaw

Got back and forward well throughout the game, linked up relatively well with Martial in the first half too. Slowly getting fitter game by game.

Morgan Schneiderlin

28 Morgan Schneiderlin

Started off well with a few good interceptions but was a little sluggish after that, probably due to lack of game time.

Ander Herrera

21 Ander Herrera

Moved well going forward and linked up with the forwards well but did struggle in the box-to-box defensive capacity but carried on his good pre-season form.

Henrikh Mkhitaryan

22 Henrikh Mkhitaryan

Struggled to get into the game, a few cute flicks but nothing concrete from him today.

Wayne Rooney

10 Wayne Rooney

His first bit of action since England's exit from Euro16 and it showed with a sluggish start but made some good aerial passes and took his goal and penalty calmly, just needs a bit more match fitness.

Anthony Martial

11 Anthony Martial

Off the back of a personally frustrating Euro16 campaign Martial started well. Strong runs forward showing off his pace and flair before coming off at half-time.

Zlatan Ibrahimovic

9 Zlatan Ibrahimovic

Fantastic debut goal with a bicycle kick in the 4th minute, after that he held the ball up well and was keen to run and run, promising signs from the veteran.

Sergio Romero

20 Sergio Romero

Replaced De Gea. Had absolutely nothing to do after coming on for De Gea after 65 minutes.

Matteo Darmian

36 Matteo Darmian

Replaced Valencia. Got forward well when United were dominating the game, didn't have a great deal to do defensively however.

Phil Jones

4 Phil Jones

Replaced Bailly. Similar to Rojo, didn't do anything wrong but had little to do.

Marcos Rojo

5 Marcos Rojo

Replaced Blind. United were cruising when he came on and didn't do badly, few good passes to start attacks off and made a good clearance.

Michael Carrick

16 Michael Carrick

Replaced Schneiderlin. Just turned 35 and still dictates the play as well as anyone, got himself forward for an assist to Mata's goal. Provides real assurance to the whole team whenever he plays.

Marouane Fellaini

27 Marouane Fellaini

Replaced Herrera. Tidy finsih with his header and put himself about a bit, wasn't involved greatly with the build up play latterly but did nothing wrong too.

Jesse Lingard

14 Jesse Lingard

Replaced Martial. Didn't have a great deal to do in the second half, played on both wings and looked sharp when he got forward.

Juan Mata

8 Juan Mata

Replaced Rooney. Five-star performance from Mata today. came on for Rooney and with great skill, a one-two and a tidy finish added a fifth for United. Created a few chances too and settle into the number 10 role perfectly.

Memphis Depay

7 Memphis Depay

Replaced Shaw. More like the Memphis we want to see, bursting forward down the wings and getting himself in good positions on the attack, was unlucky not to win a couple of free-kicks in threatening areas as the referee decidided against second yellows for the Galatasaray defenders.

Ashley Young

18 Ashley Young

Replaced Mkhitaryan. Switched to right-back after 65 minutes and again didn't put a foot wrong but didn't stand out for good reasons either.

Marcus Rashford

19 Marcus Rashford

Replaced Ibrahimovic. His energy is unbelievable from the moment he comes on. Won a penalty with great skill and pace and did the same later on where his shot was palmed behind by Muslera.
