Ratings: Manchester United need to improve as a team after Palace draw. Some players seem more determined than others…

Manchester United drew 0-0 with Crystal Palace in the Premier League at Old Trafford. Despite looking like the best team in the clash, Jose Mourinho’s side played abject football and did not take any chances they created, of which there was few of. Romelu Lukaku had chances to break his goalscoring drought, which was destined to last a bit longer. United need to change things up and fast.

United needed a win more than ever but with the display on offer, that was never going to happen. It seems that the day’s teams like Crystal Palace are despatched from Old Trafford after a hiding are long gone, at least whilst the club is toxic from the very top to the bottom. United should be playing a better quality of football than they are and that is not just down to the manager. There are many players who just do not seem to get in the zone.

After this draw and the fact that Manchester City beat West Ham United 4-0 this afternoon, there is now a 14 point difference between City and United. Jose Mourinho did previously state that he expected his side to be in the top four by the end of the year and with a month until that happens, it is looking increasingly unlikely that this is going to happen. United are a team that are not currently United and seemingly playing for themselves, whatever it is they seem to be mesmerised by. It’s not winning anyway.

Manchester United

1 David De Gea

The Spanish number one had little to do at the Theatre of Dreams against Palace. Performed a solid save in the second half of the game but other than that, his area was clear for the majority of the game.

12345

Matteo Darmian

Did well against Zaha in his first start for a while in the Premier League. Might need to do more going forward, as that is the width United rely on currently. His crossed had improved massively.

12345

Chris Smalling

The most experienced defender at the club currently played well. Helped to keep the likes of Zaha at bay during the game. Might not be happy with dropping two points but a clean sheet is a positive to look upon. However, it was Crystal Palace, not a top European club.

12345

2 Victor Lindelof

Could have scored an own goal for United, or had the assist but it was ruled offside. Played well and has done well in recent matches, stepping up his performances which saw him criticised last season.

12345

18 Ashley Young

The veteran winger-cum-fullback played a good performance against Palace, stepping in for the suspended Luke Shaw. Hard working and mopped up on occasion. Deserving of a new contract as he is one of the player that gets stuck in the majority of the time.

12345

31 Nemanja Matic

The Serbian seems to be off the pace significantly. His last good performance in a game was some time ago now. Needs to be benched in order for a more progressive player to play, preferably one with pace. He is part of the problem in this United team right now. Good player but relied upon too much with is not good for his form.

12345

6 Paul Pogba

It was a day for forget for the Frenchman. His passing was off. There was a time in the match when he seemed to be gaining consistency, for the good, but that soon wore off. Not been worth £89 million at all. It maybe time to let him decide where his future lies. It looks like he does not want it to be at the Theatre of Dreams, even though he calls it home.

12345

14 Jesse Lingard

Fresh from scoring two goals for England, Lingard may have perhaps been in form but that was not the case, Seemed to do simple things difficultly. A misplaced pass could have cost the game for United after Zaha pounced on it.

12345

8 Juan Mata

The Spanish midfielder had a solid performance against Palace. He attempted to be the creative player in attack but seemed to be let down by his teammates. Some of whom did not show as much determination.

12345

9 Anthony Martial

The Frenchman struggled at times against Palace. His dribbling was not the best. There were some sparks from the winger but not enough to start a fire to propel United forward.

12345

Romelu Lukaku

Eleven games without a goal now. Did find the back of the net but was ruled offside. Had a header which was saved. Maybe did not have the luck today. His goal drought is a worry. His first touch of the ball is something that need significant improvement.

12345

Substitutes

27 Marouane Fellaini

Replaced Lingard 60'. The Belgian did not make his usual impact coming off the bench. Fouled Milivojevic badly and was lucky not to be booked or even sent off.

12345

10 Marcus Rashford

Replaced Mata 60'. The England international showed his pace and energy at times against Palace. Maybe should have started the match.

12345

Alexis Sanchez

Replaced Pogba 68'. Scored for Chile during the international break. Came on too late to make an impact against Palace

12345
