Romelu Lukaku to undergo medical in Los Angeles – reports

Manchester United sensationally launched a bid for Romelu Lukaku which was reported on Thursday morning with Everton reportedly agreeing a £75 million deal for the player. Chelsea were tipped to re-sign their former striker in a deal with was tipped to be around the £100 million, which seems to have fallen short of that figure, for United anyway. The Belgian international is currently on holiday in Los Angeles, the destination for United on Sunday when they embark on their pre-season tour this summer. Lukaku has been on holiday with Paul Pogba, so seemingly has been classed as a lynchpin to the deal in which United are suggested to have blindsided the Premier League champions in what could be seen as a statement of intent from United manager Jose Mourinho.

The Mirror are reporting that Lukaku will undergo a medical in Los Angeles on Thursday evening, which could help his transfer be completed before the travelling party head out to California on Sunday. It is also reported that Chelsea still have intentions to sign Lukaku this summer, with United trying to get their deal for the player across the line. Thinking about the fact that Pogba and Lukaku are in LA, the destination for United on Sunday, it would be pretty silly to play both players back to Manchester only to head back to the city a few days later, which will play havoc with jet lag and maybe not be good preparation ahead of United’s pre-season tour.

Chelsea seemed to be convinced their former player would return to Stamford Bridge this summer and will be shocked that United have seemingly come out of nowhere and got their bid accepted, if the reports, which have been played down by the Goodison Park club, who are intent on re-signing former striker Wayne Rooney from United this summer, which will be treated as a separate deal. Lukaku will be offered a four-year by United with the option of a fifth year to be added on, which has been the norm for contracts for the past few years. It is reported that Lukaku will earn £200,000 at United, more than he was offered by Everton earlier in the year, which at the times was said to be £140,000.

United were intent on signing Alvaro Morata from Real Madrid, a transfer saga which has been ongoing for about a month now, if not longer, but reports had been suggesting something was close, which then turned to nothing, days were mentioned, they had come and gone and now this has happened. Thursday was meant to be Morata day, but it turned into Lukaku day instead. United were seemingly willing to pay £75 million for Morata, but Real Madrid stubbornness, or whatever you want to call it has seen them left red-faced this summer. The fact United have agreed a £75 million fee with Everton for Lukaku would suggest that this could be the right deal for United, with Madrid now back to looking for a buyer for the Spanish striker, once again.
