Reports today in the MEN have Paul Scholes as saying “Poor Yaya, maybe the big lad just needs a cuddle.”. This is unusually outspoken for the Ginger Genius, but it is no less true. He has slammed this row over a birthday cake as “comical” in his blog for Paddy Power, going on to say:
“As for Yaya Toure sulking because Manchester City didn’t mark his birthday with sufficient respect, it was comical.”
The normally shy Scholes has a very good point, and the fact that the whingeing Ivorian has started talking up links with Paris Saint Germain is nothing of short of the ludicrous. Scholesy has a point, the initial quandary was with the fact Roberto Carlos was given a luxury sports car for his birthday whilst at Anzhi and all Yaya got was a cake, a song and a trip to Abu Dhabi (and his 6 figure salary every week).
It is commonplace to call todays footballers soft, and to say they moan about the slightest little thing when they have so much more than the rest of us, but this really does take the biscuit. Scholes continued to say “[the incident was] Quite embarrassing really. I can’t remember Man United players acting like this. We still came back for Pre-Season.”. When considering some of the Prima Donnas we have had in our ranks, this is quite a scathing fact for the 6ft 3in softie to have to take, and looking at it maybe he isn’t the hard, tank of a midfielder we all thought he was, but instead quite a sensitive soul.
Whatever way you look at it, it is hilarious that something so meagre could cause something so drastic. Scholesy has absolutely hit the nail on the head, and I for one would love to see the embrace between the two. Then again, did we ever sort out that Happy Birthday banner?
