Starting XI Prediction: Rashford, Lingard, and Martial to start in a 4-3-3 against Liverpool on Sunday?

Manchester United will be pitted against Liverpool at Old Trafford in the Premier League on Sunday afternoon. United returned to winning ways on Monday evening in the Emirates FA Cup, beating Chelsea 2-0 at Stamford Bridge. Previous to that, they lost 2-0 at Old Trafford at the hands of Paris Saint-Germain. In the Premier League, United have beaten both Fulham (3-0) and Leicester City (1-0) in February, which has seen them rise to fourth in the league – an improvement on the team who were stuck in sixth.

Goalkeeper: David De Gea

David De Gea will return in goal against Liverpool on Sunday afternoon. The Spanish number one has been in good form recently and after having the best part of a fortnights rest, he should be raring to go against Liverpool. United will need to be at their best to keep Liverpool from doing the double over them this season. Liverpool supporters will suggest they have the best goalkeeper in the world, but that is just them overreacting, which is something that happens with that fan base.

Defence: Ashley Young, Victor Lindelof, Chris Smalling, Luke Shaw

United’s defence has been a worry this season, at times. Under Solskjaer though, it has been stronger at times. However, against top teams, the worries return. Eric Bailly has become a liability in defence at times this season and at one stage, he was the first-choice defender in the team under Jose Mourinho. Right now though, the first name on the teamsheet, at least in defence, would be Victor Lindelof. I think he will be partnered by Chris Smalling with Ashley Young and Luke Shaw in the fullback roles.

Midfield: Ander Herrera, Nemanja Matic, Paul Pogba

This is United’s best midfield trio – Ander Herrera, Nemanja Matic, and Paul Pogba. This midfield gives enough for Pogba to play in a more advanced role and Herrera and Matic freeing him up, giving him the space to become the player in between the midfield and the attack. Pogba has been in his best form as a United player under Solskjaer, which is what the club needed, rather than seeing him perform once in a blue moon under Mourinho.

Forward Three: Jesse Lingard, Marcus Rashford, Anthony Martial

Solskjaer has suggested that Jesse Lingard and Anthony Martial could both feature against Liverpool this weekend, which is a boost after the blow last weekend when it was expected that both players could be out for two to three weeks. On Monday, Romelu Lukaku and Juan Mata started in the front three and helped United beat Chelsea at Stamford Bridge for the first time since 2012. Marcus Rashford should keep his place in the team, playing as the central striker, flanked by Lingard and Martial.
