Team News: McTominay captains United as the U23’s face Arsenal

Manchester United U23’s face Arsenal in their penultimate Premier League 2 fixture at the Emirates this evening. Just over 24 hours since the first team played at the same stadium, losing 2-0, Nicky Butt’s U23 will be pitted against the North Londoners aiming to ensure they are not relegated from division one in the league ahead of next season. United have two games in hand over Southampton, who have been relegated into division two, but the bottom placed team, Reading, could probably stay up with a win in their last match, providing United lose both matches (Arsenal and Tottenham Hotspur) conceding goals aplenty. United will need a win or a draw to remain in the top flight of the Premier League 2 next season.

This season, United’s U23 have been minus a few players to make them a full team. Playing without a recognised striker, utilising the more talented players in that role, Nicky Butt has a lot to do in the summer to steer this U23 side back to the glory that have become accustomed to, winning the title in this age group for the last two seasons. Everton have been crowned the champions this season, pipping Manchester City to the title. United could finish in the top six with two victories (tonight and in a week’s time), which may not be the season this side will have wanted, but it will be a starting point for next season.
