Manchester United target Daley Blind has spoken out about the attention he is receiving from the media, who suggest he is a target for new United manager Louis van Gaal, who will be looking to revamp his squad ahead of their Barclays Premier League opener against Swansea City at Old Trafford, which at this moment in time is scheduled for Saturday 16th August 2014, although this could be changed due to television schedules.
The Dutch defender, who can also play a midfield role, shined during Friday’s 5-1 demolition of World and European Champions Spain, who on Wednesday evening became the first team to be knocked out of this summers prestigious tournament. Blind assisted in the spectacular Robin Van Persie flying header goal, which was the equaliser against Spain, he also assisted in another goal in that match. The Ajax player also assisted again in Wednesday’s match against Australia. The Mirror have reported the Dutch player as saying:
“All the attention is a very big thing now, but I try not to think about it too much and will keep my feet on the ground.
“The link with Manchester United is easily made because Robin is playing there and Van Gaal takes over next season.”
Blind has not ruled out a move away from Ajax this summer, and with United looking for cover in most areas of the pitch, especially midfield and in the left-back position, seeing as it has been revealed that Alexander Büttner will leave the Old Trafford club this summer. Blind was turned into a defensive minded midfielder by Ajax coach Frank de Boer, but he also has some attacking flair and an eye for a good ball, seen on Friday against Spain.
Just how this one turns out remains to be seen. The Netherlands are guaranteed a Round of 16 tie in this summers tournament, from there we will just have to see what happens. Many will have hoped to see Louis van Gaal in the United hot seat by the time July gets here, but personally, having a manager who could win the World Cup at Old Trafford this summer sounds so much better. It is good to hear that the player has not ended speculation by stating he is happy at Ajax, a transfer could be straight forward, or the player could just be keeping his options open.
