Reports from Spain this morning state that Manchester United are about to break the bank for Atlético Madrid midfielder Koke this summer. The Old Trafford club have been linked with the player on numerous occasions, but it is suggested that the player does not want to leave his club this summer. There are also rumours linking the Spanish midfielder with a move to Barcelona, but El Confidencial suggest that the Catalan club are only willing to spend €30 million on the player, with United reportedly willing to match the players release clause of €60 million, which is around £48 million.
The 22-year-old played an integral role for Los Rojiblancos this season helping them win the La Liga and earn a place in the UEFA Champions League final, which they lost to rivals Real Madrid 4-1 after extra time. With the Old Trafford club not participating in the UEFA Champions League, there is a chance that key targets may not come to the club, but they are only expected to be without European football for one season with new manager Louis van Gaal likely to get United firing again in the new season.
Koke is a talented player and would no doubt improve the clubs midfield and enable them to create more chances during matches. The Spanish midfielder was a target for David Moyes during his time at the club, but Atlético Madrid were not keen to sell the player. With Thibaut Courtois seemingly going back to Chelsea this summer and with team-mate Diego Costa heading to the same club, it seems that the Spanish champions will be splitting up the team that broke the recent domination of Real Madrid and Barcelona.
