United to bid for Madrid ace?

Reports have surfaced today in both The Metro and the Daily Star that United are lining up a £25 million bid for Real Madrid ace Angel di Maria. According to the article in The Metro, di Maria in “near the top of the list” of potential targets coveted by Louis van Gaal.

Having scored 11 goals and providing 24 assists for Madrid last term, di Maria is supposedly still unsure of his future at the Spanish giants, and United are looking to take full advantage of his uncertainty. Di Maria was quoted as saying:

“I am not going to lie, I know that there are clubs that want to sign me and can match Real Madrid’s demands. I am happy at Madrid. I had a great season and always had everybody’s support.”

United are allegedly willing to offer the £25 million straight up, which could prove to be the factor that swings the deal their way, however, should it not be, then other targets will be looked at instead.

There is no doubt a player of di Marias’ undoubted quality would add some much-needed creativity to the side, and with a reported war chest of near £200 million to make use of, it could prove to be one luxury well worth investing in. Though if other targets in much less densely populated areas of the pitch were to become available before any potential deal here, it would be preferable to go for them ahead of it.

Either way you look at it, it is a relief to be linked with an alternative Madrid superstar to the usual Cristiano Ronaldo speculation, and a front three of Adnan Januzaj, Juan Mata and Angel di Maria is certainly more appealing than anything we have currently.
