Manchester United fans are counting down the days before the summer transfer window closes in just 14 days time [Monday 1st September 2014 at 2300 BST]. It was a summer where we were promised world-class players, United’s ability to lure top players even without UEFA Champions League football and we also saw Ed Woodward suggest that there was no set budget, the club could spent £60, £70 or £80 million on one player, followed by those immortal words “watch this space”. Then…..NOTHING!
Of course, United have already signed Ander Herrera and Luke Shaw, that was two months ago now and the start of the period where many more players would be coming to the club, and unwanted players leaving. We have only seen Rio Ferdinand, Nemanja Vidic, Patrice Evra, Alexander Büttner and Bebe leave the club, with nothing in way of incoming players secured, which has made a few supporters throw their teddies out of their prams and restart the #GlazerOut hashtag on social media. We also heard talks of a protest, albeit at the next home match against Queens Park Rangers on the 14th September, which will be too late. The majority of the ‘new protesters’ will drop off the protest radar when/if the club make a new signing, which all seems a bit fickle to me.
We have seen protests throughout the Glazer ownership of the club, but now the passion to get rid of the Glazers is back, where has it been?
