Bruno Fernandes offer said to be ‘imminent’ according to Portuguese media; is Manchester United actually in the running?

The Bruno Fernandes saga returned to the Portuguese media on Tuesday with four of the top newspapers posturing the transfer saga of the summer. On Wednesday, stories continued to emerge suggesting that Manchester United still lead the pack to sign the 24-year-old this summer. A Bola believe a proposal to now be ‘imminent’.

It is stated that ‘everything indicates‘ that an offer from the Old Trafford club will come before the end of the week. Of course, only a few weeks ago, it was suggested that a move could be completed by the end of that week or the start of the week following, which never actually materialised as anything but rumour in the Portuguese media.

Tottenham Hotspur is said to still hold an interested in Fernandes this summer but not as much as United with manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer pressuring the hierarchy of the Old Trafford club, which is apparently ‘making the difference’. It is said that Solskjaer has been hurrying the club to get signings through the door, rather than one at a time.

Miguel Pinho was not mentioned in the report, which is a strange one as according to the media, he always seems to be travelling between Portugal and England, as he has an office in London. The main thing is that Sporting CP would like to make €70 million from the deal to sell Fernandes but offers are said to be around €50 million instead.

Whilst there still seems to be more work that needs to be done in this prospective deal, the fact that nothing seems to be developing suggests that this could just be a rumour in order to gain interest in the player this summer. Fernandes is a fine midfielder, not the best yet but he has the skill and ability to be one of the best in Europe, if not the world.

United were supposed to be concentrating in a defender, which is something that was mentioned in the Portuguese media on Tuesday, with Harry Maguire of Leicester City hotly linked to United once again. However, the 26-year-old played for his club against Scunthorpe United on Tuesday, amid reports that a United medical could be in the process of happening. We will see whether this saga becomes anything but fiction.
