Bruno Fernandes ready for Manchester United medical as transfer nears; player wanted for number ten position – reports

Sporting CP midfielder Bruno Fernandes is reportedly ready to fly to Manchester and have a medical ahead of a transfer to Manchester United, according to reports. The prospective transfer of the 24-year-old has turned into a saga throughout the summer transfer window with speculation suggesting it would soon be completed numerous times.

It has been stated that United manager, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has identified the Portuguese midfield, who is rated at £62 million by Sporting, as a key transfer target in a bid to rejuvenate the midfield at the club. It is also suggested that the Norwegian is also interested in signing Sergej Milinkovic-Savic from Lazio this summer.

Correiro Dello Sport in Italy has suggested that a fee for Fernandes has now been agreed and that the transfer is expected to run smoothly. Fernandes left Portugal for New York ahead of a pre-season match against Liverpool at the Yankee Stadium on Wednesday evening (early hours of Thursday in England), scoring a stunning opening goal.

Last season, the 24-year-old scored a total of 32 goals, adding 18 assists, giving him involvement in a total of 50 goals, which will be considered a great season for the midfielder. This news comes days after United’s executive vice-chairman, Ed Woodward missed the pre-season tour, hopefully, to finalise transfers and not leave another manager hanging.

In recent weeks, it has been suggested by the media in Portugal that Solskjaer wants to secure a defensive signing first of all before moving for any other players this summer. This speculation seems to be similar to the progress to make signings this summer with Solskjaer signing Daniel James before moving for Aaron Wan-Bissaka.

It has been preempted in the Portuguese media that Solskjaer wants Fernandes to play in the number ten position in the squad, should these reports actually result in the Portuguese midfielder moving to the Theatre of Dreams this summer. This could bring out the best of the player, also give the United forwards something creative behind that, which has been lacking recently.
