Joe Hart linked to Manchester United, but it is a possibility this summer?

Joe Hart is running out of time at Manchester City with the club looking to offload him permanently in the summer. The England goalkeeper has been playing on loan in the Serie A with Torino this season, keeping himself in the headlines, sometimes for the right reasons, but also for the wrong reasons. To say Hart was a goalkeeper at the top of his game would be untrue, he has been on the decline for the last 18 months or so. Hart has been linked with a move to Manchester United with David De Gea seemingly on his way to Real Madrid again and Sergio Romero linked with both Inter and AC Milan this summer.

What is being reported and by who?

The Sun have reported that Hart is open to a move to cross-city rivals Manchester United if De Gea leaves this summer. The Mirror have reported that United are ready to sanction the deal to bring the England international to the Theatre of Dreams this summer. It seems the player wants the move and the club wants the move, which would suggest it was a dead cert. City value the player at £30 million, which is a big high considering the fact they have publicly lost confidence in the player and getting that fee would be a massive surprise, even if he was to sign for a rival team. City manager Pep Guardiola has reportedly told Hart that there is no way back into the first team at the Etihad for him once his loan spell with Torino is over. Manchester City really does know how to treat a player that has treated the club with loyalty over the years. It is funny as Guardiola spend a massive fee on Claudio Bravo from Barcelona in the summer, which has been shown to be a massive waste of money – Joe Hart would have probably done much better under the Spanish genius who has not improved his team this summer, still destined to finish in the same position Manuel Pellegrini steered his team to last season.

What type of player is Joe Hart?

Joe Hart is a goalkeeper. He is the English number one, which does not say a lot, to be honest, but he has been known to be a commanding goalkeeper. He was linked to United many years ago after spending a period on loan with Birmingham City in 2010 but went on to cement himself into the City side, making a total of 349 appearances in ten seasons. Many were surprised that Hart was not given a chance by Guardiola this season, sent packing to Torino for the remainder of the season and told he would not be part of the future at the club. Hart has been linked to Liverpool, among other clubs, which is probably where he will end up as United will want a player heading to the top of their game, or already there. Hart has been declining for 18 months now, which may turn under Mourinho, but could easily be an expensive gamble. Hart being English is a good thing, something City cannot really afford to lose being that English players in their squad are akin to rocking horse excrement.

Likelihood of the transfer?

Providing David De Gea leaves United this summer, United will need another goalkeeper. That is a certainty unless Sergio Romero is given the nod, but he is linked with a move away to Italy, which would leave Joel Pereira, Sam Johnstone, Kieran O’Hara and Dean Henderson at the club, only one of whom have made their first team debut – Pereira. Jose Mourinho will need a first choice goalkeeper, many will be linked to United. Jan Oblak has been linked and may be a shot, but the links with Hart seem something more, especially with Mourinho reportedly looking to add an English core to his United side, which would be welcome, but probably expensive knowing that these players command inflated fees from selling clubs. Will Joe Hart be a Manchester United player this summer, probably not, but with rumours like this, there is no way to be sure! It all depends on what happens with De Gea and Romero, one or both will need to leave for United to be looking for a goalkeeper this summer.
