Manchester United have been given a transfer boost, apparently!

Manchester United have been given a transfer boost report The Sun. It would seem that Paris Saint-Germain have reportedly rejected a £13 million bid from Juventus for French midfielder Blaise Matuidi, seemingly once a target for United, reported last summer and supposedly still a target for United this summer. This whole story has a Nicolas Gaitan feel to it. United are once linked to a player, which then comes back like a boomerang transfer window after transfer window until that player disappears into obscurity. Wesley Sneijder seemed to be one of those rumours too, as does James Rodriguez. The media seem to link any player with a pulse to Manchester United now, which shows how poor journalism has become.

Arsenal are thought to retain an interest in Matuidi also, so if this alerts Arsene Wenger into making a bid for the player, which is then accepted, there will be a ready-made story for the journalists to write, How Manchester United missed out on Blaise Matuidi. I am sure you will be thinking the same thing here. That seems to happen every summer too. I mean United have missed out on Michael Keane to Everton already if you believe what has been written in the media. United were interested in bringing the player back to Old Trafford but certain guarantees about Keane’s playing time could not be offered by Jose Mourinho, so United did not continue with the deal for the player, that is what I am led to believe anyway. That means that United have now missed out on Keane!

Matuidi was the fallback option for Paul Pogba last summer if reports a year ago were to be believed, which now suggests that as there was once some interest in the player, no matter how little, the interest comes back for years on end. I am sure if United were interested in Matuidi, the fact that the deal for Nemanja Matic from Chelsea seems to be stalling may have averted United to the signing of Matuidi instead, which does not seem to have happened. Matuidi is a decent player, but for United, he would not be a quality addition, in my opinion at least. United need to find that player who can take over from Michael Carrick, Matuidi is not that player, not for the long-term anyway.

Matuidi has now entered the final year in his contract at the Parc des Princes and an exit last summer was seemingly averted by new manager Unai Emery but this summer, the Frenchman seems to be keen on an exit, possibly after seeing the team fail to retain the Ligue 1 title, which was lifted by AS Monaco last season. Goal’s website, which is where these reports come from, presumably The Sun cannot investigate themselves anymore, seeking to find content from other sources deemed intriguing enough to report, which fits them up really, suggest that the Premier League would suit Matuidi who could play well as a box-to-box midfielder. It makes me wonder if that is the type of midfielder United needs this summer, being that they have Paul Pogba and Ander Herrera in the ranks unless the latter is leaving – which I doubt.

United may well move onto other targets if Matic does not end up at Old Trafford before a certain date, which may see more frustration from United’s fan base, which always seems to be the case a week or two into the transfer market anyway as some supporters think a transfer is as easy as FIFA 17 makes it look, which is far from the case. The transfer window is open until the 31st August this year and the signings that Jose Mourinho makes this summer may not appease everyone, especially the ones who seem to think they know better, despite knowing nothing at the same time, which is fun to watch play out on Twitter – watch out for the user accounts with a player name, then an adjective, they are what I am talking about.
