Manchester United increase offer for Bruno Fernandes, according to claims in the Portuguese media

After helping Portugal win the UEFA Nations League, Manchester United target Bruno Fernandes has spoken to the Italian media, which has led to many newspapers in Portugal claiming that the player could join Inter Milan this summer. However, one newspaper, Jornal de Notícias says different.

Translated by Sport Witness, the Portuguese newspaper has stated that United offer for Fernandes has been raised, putting them ahead of Tottenham Hotspur, who are also interested in the player this summer, presumably as a replacement for Christian Eriksen, if he leaves the North London club this summer.

Last week, there were claims of an €80 million deal for Fernandes; €55 million up front and €25 million in add ons. Now, it is claimed that United have raised that offer with them willing to pay €65 million up front with €15 million in add ons – still equaling €80 million but the Portuguese club get more money up front.

In doing this, United are outbidding Spurs, who would probably need to sell Eriksen, or others this summer in order to purchase a player that would command a high transfer fee. United would not need to sell in order to buy, so that would put them ahead anyway, in my opinion. On Monday, reports suggested that a deal for Fernandes to United was close.

However, this report states that is not the case. There is still a lot to be agreed, according to Jornal de Notícias. A Bola in Portugal report something similar, however, they state that Spurs have offered €68 million for Fernandes whilst United has offered €70 million plus €10 million in add ons.

Jornal de Notícias might just be more realistic, according to Sport Witness. A Bola tends to claim things that have not quite been correct, adding to the speculation which does seem to be rife in the Portuguese media. Hopefully, now that the international transfer window is open, things start to develop with this prospective transfer.
