Manchester United want £150 million for Paul Pogba. Juventus and Real Madrid interested so far this summer

If speculation is to be believed, it would seem that Paul Pogba could be leaving Manchester United this summer. Three years have passed since the player made an £89 million return to the Theatre of Dreams but it has hardly worked out for the club or the player. United are said to be asking £150 million for the Frenchman this summer.

The Mirror has reported that Pogba could be heading back to Italy this summer, with Juventus interested in the player. It was reported earlier on Friday that Juventus sporting director Fabio Paratici was in London for face-to-face talks over the prospective transfer of Pogba. Also that agent, Mino Raiola had his ban lifted in Italy, so as far as taking players into the country, he would be fine to do so.

More reports, carried by The Mirror suggested that United would think about a possible transfer for Pogba of right-back Joao Cancelo was part of the deal, which if true, would suggest that the clubs pursuit of Aaron Wan-Bissaka could, in fact, be over. It is stated in the report that United would like to keep Pogba, who has two years remaining on his current deal.

Real Madrid, at least according to The Sun, is just £15 million short of reaching United’s £150 million price tag for Pogba this summer, which would suggest the La Liga club is still interested in the player, even after spending a lot of money already, including signing Eden Hazard from Chelsea.

Former Real Madrid president, Ramon Calderon, also reported by The Sun, has stated that a transfer for Pogba would not be easy for his former club. However, he talks about. £170 million price tag, which would seem a little too high for the Frenchman this summer. I am sure that if Real Madrid offers £150 million, or as close to that figure, United would allow him to leave the club. Calderon said:

“It’s not easy. A player like that, Manchester United are not going to [let him] go without a lot of money. I know they have been talking about £170m.

“It’s an opportunity but Manchester United have to wait because the player has a contract until 2021.

“Knowing he is an important player who is young, and knowing that Zidane is continually asking for him, they can wait in the office for a lot of money in a suitcase.

“That’s if they want to sell him, and also the player has the last word. I don’t know if he wants to leave.”

One other report about Pogba from the media came from Usain Bolt. He does not think United should be selling the player, rather building a team around him. Pogba has been at the club for three years now and many players have been signed to accommodate him, help him have an advanced role, but it has not really worked out. Pogba’s body language and the fact he did not fight to the end, does not exactly suggest he’s worthy of having a team built around him. Bolt said:

“[Paul] Pogba and [Romelu] Lukaku should definitely stay. I am a massive fan of Pogba’s. They need to build the team around him.

“If you watch him when he is at Juventus and for France, he is outstanding because he has good strikers and good people who know how he plays and how he runs off the ball. He is a great passer.

“Listen, it doesn’t matter about who someone cuts their hair or whatever. As long as when he comes on the field he shows up.

“As I said if you build the right team around him, give him the right strikers to play with, who understand how he plays, then he will do great.”

One thing is for sure – it is going to be a long summer. The international transfer window has just opened and United have so far signed Daniel James from Swansea City. They are linked with many players, including; Aaron Wan-Bissaka, Harry Maguire, and Bruno Fernandes, who all seem to be strong links, however, there are many more players linked to the club, which seem to be more click bait than anything else at the moment.

Will United sell Pogba this summer? That is the question. Whilst I have not been pleased by his performances, more consistently, over the past three years, he is a player that should be leading the club and showing the other players the type of player they all need to be. However, he has not done this. Although he led for France in the FIFA World Cup last summer, his leadership as far as United is concerned leads more to be desired. I would be sorry to see him leave again but no player is bigger than the club.
