Max Kruse added to Manchester United’s wish list, according to some joker!

Maximillian Kruse, the main striker for Bundesliga side Werder Bremen seems to have got himself noticed during the past season. Kruse is not a player many would expect to see linked to Manchester United, but that seems to have happened amongst the more unreliable websites out there. If Jose Mourinho was interested in the player, I am sure we would have heard about it before now, not just a day or so after United suggested they were not going after Antoine Griezmann. I mean that is like wanting to shop in Prada and ending up in Primark. No offence to the player intended. The 29-year-old started his career at Werder Bremen, leaving for St Pauli in 2009, then signing for Freiburg in 2012, Borussia Mönchelgladbach in 2013, VfL Wolfsburg in 2015, back to Bremen last summer. Last season, Kruse made 24 appearances for his club, scoring 15 goals.

What is being reported and by who?

Kruse was linked to Everton by talkSPORT, possibly as a replacement to Romelu Lukaku who has been told he can leave the Goodison Park club this summer if bids come from ‘certain clubs’. Kruse seems to be on the level of Everton and it would be a massive surprise if he were to end up at Old Trafford. The report suggests that £10.5 million would be key to luring the German striker. The Sun linked Manchester United with a move for Kruse just a day later, which is typical poor journalism from the newspaper with reported later followed by Goal, The Daily Star, and The Metro. Kruse is a talented player, but leading the line at Manchester United as the first choice striker would be a big move to make. Personally, I would rather see what Marcus Rashford could do for a complete season with him not being in the shadow of any other player, but United would need a player to fill the void during periods where rotation needs to happen and if the player suffered an injury.

What type of player is Max Kruse?

Kruse is a striker, one capable of scoring 15 goals, as he did during the past season, getting close to that number of goals at each club he has played for during his professional career. I don’t think he’s a top player, at least one who will show the likes of Robert Lewandowski, Romelu Lukaku, and Luiz Suarez up, but one who serves a purpose to his club. Kruse is ready to leave Bremen once again after finishing eighth in the Bundesliga, missing out on European football, which Everton have next season, albeit from the qualification round of the UEFA Europa League. Everton, if he signs for them, may get themselves a decent player in Kruse, but in terms of linking him to Manchester United, someone must be having a joke somewhere.

Likelihood of the transfer?

I do not think there is anything in this transfer. Kruse seems to be able to score goals in the Bundesliga, but Germany is the only country he has ever played football in and at 29, a change to a league as competitive as the Premier League, let alone to one of the big clubs such as United, could cause him to fail dismally. Everton though, a club with much lower prospects may work for him, which is the club Kruse was originally linked to before the ‘unreliable media’ linked him to United, presumably to come out with another report for when the player signed for Everton or elsewhere, suggesting that the player turned down United for a move to a much better club. Come on, we have been there before, many times, and will again. The media hate United, which is why there are endless rumours and reports about the club. The club that gives them all a meal ticket.
