Paulo Dybala to hold meeting with Maurizio Sarri ahead of decision to leave Juventus for Manchester United in Romelu Lukaku swap deal

Late on Tuesday evening, it was reported by Sky Sports Italy that Manchester United and Juventus had agreed a swap deal in principle which would take Romelu Lukaku to the Serie A and send Paulo Dybala to the Premier League this summer. However, it was stated that the deal hinges on whether Dybala would want to move on this summer.

Then came reports that Dybala’s agent, Jorge Antun was in London for talks regarding a prospective transfer this summer. There was belief that United could sign the 25-year-old Argentinian to strengthen the clubs attack, which was tested against Norwegian side Kristiansund on Tuesday evening in Oslo in which United won the match 1-0, winning a penalty in the last minute, which was scored by Juan Mata.

Dybala signed for Juventus in the summer of 2015, signing from Palermo for a fee of €32 million with a further €8 million in add ons. The 25-year-old has since played 182 times for the Italian club, scoring 78 goals. The player was reportedly considering his future at Juventus after losing his place to Cristiano Ronaldo, who signed for the club last summer.

Dybala is valued at €100 million by Juventus and is understood to want to speak to head coach, Maurizio Sarri before making a decision on a move to the Theatre of Dreams, which is understandable considering Sarri has recently become the new manager at the club after leaving Chelsea at the end of last season. The meeting between the two will be held this week.

It is suggested that Dybala may take some convincing to leave Juventus and United will need a replacement for Lukaku, should he leave this summer. Moussa Dembele is a name on the list to replace the Belgian. Juventus may make a cash offer is Dybala did not want to leave the club this summer. The clubs vice-president, Pavel Nedved spoke to the media about interest in Dybala, refusing to be drawn in on Lukaku, saying:

“We have some offers for Paulo Dybala but we’ll wait to decide about his future. [Romelu] Lukaku? We always try to get players but I don’t want to speak about Lukaku or others.”

Inter Milan have been interested in Lukaku all summer but their two-year loan offer with a compulsory purchase at the end was rejected, as was their low offer for the Belgian striker. This has now left Juventus in the driving seat for Lukaku at this stage of the summer although Inter director Giuseppe Marotta has suggested the club are still interested in signing Lukaku this summer.

Former United defender Patrice Evra has also been in the news days after announcing his retirement from football. It is stated in the media that the Frenchman contacted his former teammate to try and convince him to move to United this summer. It was also suggested that Lukaku has agreed on a £160,000 equivalent wage at Juventus, which might be a bit premature.

Both United and Juventus are said to be optimistic of this swap deal going through, which will be the second the club will have completed in the past two years and Alexis Sanchez arriving from Arsenal with Henrikh Mkhitaryan heading the other way. It is said that United has offered Dybala £150,000 a week to move to the Old Trafford club but the Argentinian is said to be asking for £210,000 a week.

Last season at Juventus, despite losing his place to Ronaldo, Dybala played a total of 42 times for the club in the Serie A, UEFA Champions League, Coppa Italia, and the Coppa Italiana, scoring ten goals and five assists in 2,820 minutes of football. Dybala played as a right-winger, a centre-forward, a second striker and an attacking midfielder.
