Ratings: Anthony Martial the MOTM in Chelsea draw, which should have been a victory

Manchester United drew 2-2 with Chelsea at Stamford Bridge. Chelsea scored the first goal through Antonio Rudiger, a header from a corner. Ten minutes into the second half, Anthony Martial scored the equaliser. Martial then put United ahead in the 73rd minute. Six minutes of stoppage time were added and Ross Barkley scored an equaliser for Chelsea.

United were seemingly up for the challenge of Chelsea at Stamford Bridge. The first half was not the time that was shown, but with United putting in the effort and work to score two second half goals, both by Anthony Martial, it was clear that a victory was what the players wanted. However, conceding a second time, in added time was a devastating result. A draw against Chelsea though is a good result. They did not get mullered by Maurizio Sarri’s side.

Martial is the Man of the Match for me. His effort, shown in both of his goals is going to be invaluable for United. If he can get himself into a period of form now, he will be a stand out figure in the team, possibly for the remainder of the season. He’s scored three goals in the last two matches now. With Juventus in the UEFA Champions League on Tuesday at Old Trafford, the squad will need to be in fine fettle, to overcome what could potentially be a mauling by the Italian champions.

Manchester United

1 David De Gea

The Spanish number one conceded the opening goal in the game after Chelsea won a corner. Rudiger latched onto the ball, firing his header past De Gea. A better second half followed, with United scoring an equaliser and what seemed to be a winner, before Barkley struck in stoppage time.

18 Ashley Young

Booked in the first half. Statistically he was one of the best players (for United) on the pitch. It was a much better second half for United. Was tested by Hazard bu the Belgian was not able to get one over him.

2 Victor Lindelof

A positive match for the Swedish international. May not have been concentrating all of the time but was blameless for Rudiger's headed goal, as that was Pogba's mistake.

Chris Smalling

Could have done much better throughout the game. Did well considering. Helped keep Morata at bay.

23 Luke Shaw

Defensively, the England international played well. However, he did not get forward as much as would have been liked. Great to have him heading into some form and looking to put the last four years behind him, onto the next five of six years of his contract.

8 Juan Mata

The Spanish Magician has been the thought behind this United side, playing well and seeming to want to get United level in the game. When Mata plays, United look so much better. His pace may not be great but his mind is what is needed mostly.

31 Nemanja Matic

Did not have the best of starts. Fouled Hazard on the edge of the box, which luckily came to nothing. Booked minutes later for persistent infringement, fouling Hazard again. Was sent off by Mike Dean earlier in the season. As the game grew, Matic's presence was felt more.

6 Paul Pogba

Was the player that cost the opening goal for Chelsea. Was not concentrating on his man (Rudiger), lost him in the box and the German fired Chelsea ahead with a header. For a player of his ability, this was poor concentration from him. Played better in the second half but he should be playing to the best of his abilities from the moment the game starts to the moment the game finishes. Need more from Pogba.

10 Marcus Rashford

After scoring for England during the international break, Rashford would have upped his confidence ahead of this fixture. He was fouled by Hazard just before he got into the box with the ball as United trailed 1-0, the resulting free-kick came to nothing. Laid a pass to Martial for his second goal of the game, what could have been United's winner.

Romelu Lukaku

Poor in the first half. Better in the second. Not sure I saw him in a goalscoring position during the match. He seems to be on fire for Belgium, with the creativity offered from his teammates. That creativity is not the same at United. To say I am frustrated with Lukaku would be right.

9 Anthony Martial

Scored a brace in the second half. Maybe should have played the rest of the game instead of being replaced by Pereira but Juventus is on the horizon now and it was probably right to save him for that game. Although, he might have scored again, which would have been worth him staying on the pitch.

21 Ander Herrera

Replaced Mata 75'. Helped try to stop Chelsea from taking advantage late in the game.

15 Andreas Pereira

Replaced Martial 84'. Good to see him back. Using this depth of the squad is good to see. Played well, albeit a cameo appearance.

Alexis Sanchez

Replaced Rashford 85'. Lively at times, although he did not have much time to get stuck into the game, despite the added time played.
