Real Madrid reportedly willing to spend £150 million to sign Paul Pogba this summer

Real Madrid is reportedly ready to launch a £150 million bid for Manchester United midfielder Paul Pogba this summer. It is also reported that the Spanish club would give the Frenchman the same wage as Gareth Bale, £600,000 a week, providing the Welshman leaves the Santiago Bernabeu this summer, which is what Zinedine Zidane wants.

Spanish newspaper AS carry these reports which suggest Real Madrid are seeking to get their summer rebuilding plan in action again after already signing many players, including Eden Hazard, Luka Jovic, Eder Militao, Ferland Mendy and Rodrygo and now the club must balance the books before aiming to sign Pogba or anyone else.

Zidane has been clear that Bale has no future at the Bernabeu this summer and that he needs to leave the club. Bale’s agent, Jonathan Barnett has not been happy with the comments and suggested that the player will not leave the club on loan and could remain for three more years, until the expiry of his contract. Zidane, talking about Bale, said:

“We hope he leaves soon. It would be best for everyone. We are working on his transfer to a new team.

“I have nothing personal against him, but there comes a time where things are done because they must be done. I have to make decisions. We have to change.

“The exit is the coach’s decision, and also of the player, who knows the situation.

“The situation will change, I do not know if in 24 or 48 hours, but it will – and it’s a good thing for everyone.”

United manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer would like Pogba to remain at the Old Trafford club this summer and despite Pogba suggesting earlier in the summer that he may want a new challenge, the Norwegian is adamant that the French midfielder will not be leaving the club this summer. This may not be an easy transfer for Real Madrid but they do have time on their side.

The Premier League transfer window closes in just over a fortnight meaning that if Pogba is to leave the Old Trafford club this summer, his departure would need to happen soon so that United can bring in a replacement, or that a deal must be agreed for him to leave later in the summer, with the Spanish transfer window closing on the 31 August.

United are linked with many midfielders this summer from Sean Longstaff to Bruno Fernandes to Sergej Milinkovic-Savic. Some reports suggest that Milinkovic-Savic will be United’s replacement for Pogba, should the Frenchman actually leave the club this summer. Obviously, United will need to sign a replacement inside the next fortnight, otherwise it will be too late and Pogba will not be allowed to leave.

United should be seeking to ensure they have a backup for Pogba, should he decide to upset the apple cart closer to the closure of the transfer window in England, United would need to be prepared to bring in a player to replace him at short notice. Also, they should consider telling Pogba that if he does want to leave this summer, there will be a deadline for doing so.
