Starting XI Prediction: Tahith Chong to start against Crystal Palace; James Garner and Angel Gomes on the bench?

Manchester United will travel to London to face Crystal Palace at Selhurst Park in the Premier League on Wednesday evening with the match kicking off at 20:00 GMT, not shown live in the United Kingdom. Ole Gunnar Solskjaer will be seeking a return to winning ways after the 0-0 draw with Liverpool at the Theatre of Dreams on Sunday afternoon, which followed the 2-0 victory over Chelsea in the Emirates FA Cup last week. This will be the final fixture to be played in February.

United and Palace have played 54 times in the history of both clubs. United has won 36 times, drawing 11 times and losing just seven times. The last defeat to Palace was in the League Cup on the 30th November 2011, a 2-1 defeat for United. This was the match that Wilfried Zaha first showed his talents to Sir Alex Ferguson, who bought the player in January 2013, just over 13 months later. In the last 12 meetings, United are undefeated, winning 10 and drawing twice, once at home, once away.

Goalkeeper: David De Gea

David De Gea had little to do against Liverpool at the Theatre of Dreams on Sunday afternoon as the visiting side had just seven shots on goal, one of them on target. The Spanish number one did not have to make a save, which was surprising. The result was a tough one though as United slipped down to fifth in the Premier League, with Liverpool rising back to the summit. Returning to winning ways, despite the injuries, will be paramount against Palace though.

Defence: Ashley Young, Victor Lindelof, Chris Smalling, Luke Shaw

United’s defence has not conceded a single goal in their last two matches, which has shown the strength of the players utilised by Solskjaer during his caretaker management stint with the club, which should turn into a permanent position for him at the end of the season. Ashley Young has been a leader in defence, Luke Shaw has earned his position, Victor Lindelof has turned into the first-choice player to play in the central defensive position and despite being partnered with three players, Chris Smalling should keep his place.

Midfield: Andreas Pereira, Scott McTominay, Paul Pogba

This is now a problem area for United now that Nemanja Matic is out for up to a month and that Ander Herrera limped out after 20 minutes against Liverpool. Paul Pogba will definitely keep his place (he will get a rest when United face Paris Saint-Germain next week). The Frenchman could be partnered with Scott McTominay, who started against Liverpool, and Andreas Pereira, who replaced Herrera, both doing well against Liverpool, despite criticism on social media, giving both players a positive boost.

Forward Three: Tahith Chong, Romelu Lukaku, Anthony Martial

Solskjaer may have a few problems in this area with Marcus Rashford sustaining an ankle injury in the first minute against Liverpool, playing the full match, meaning he is a big doubt for the trip to Palace. Jesse Lingard was also injured in the clash at Old Trafford, so he is a doubt once again. Alexis Sanchez has been poor of late, continuing that form against Liverpool. Juan Mata and Jesse Lingard are injured after the Liverpool match. Anthony Martial could come back for this game and Tahith Chong could get a rare start.

Substitutes: Sergio Romero; Eric Bailly, Diogo Dalot; Fred, Angel Gomes, James Garner; Alexis Sanchez

United will most likely be without Matteo Darmian (knock), Antonio Valencia (muscle), Marcos Rojo (knock), Ander Herrera (hamstring), Juan Mata (hamstring), Jesse Lingard and Marcus Rashford (ankle), although Rojo was seen entering the team hotel ahead of the Liverpool match, but did not make the matchday squad. Solskjaer has hinted that some young players may be given an opportunity, which could see Angel Gomes in with a chance, as well as James Garner, Diogo Dalot and Fred, who could all be on the bench.
