Manchester United and Chelsea to go head-to-head for £35 million rated left-back – reports

The Bournemouth left-back, 20, has some talent and could well be a star in the future

Manchester United and Chelsea are reportedly set to battle it out for Bournemouth left-back Milos Kerkez according to Ben Jacobs of GiveMeSport. Both clubs are reportedly seeking a young left-back and are currently shortlisting their targets for the summer transfer window.

Kerkez joined Bournemouth last summer for a fee of £15.5 million from AZ Alkmaar and has made 33 appearances for the club, not scoring any goals but getting one assist. The 20-year-old is set to feature in Euro 2024 later this month after being selected for Marco Rossi’s Hungary squad.

Kerkez is currently focussed on international duty with Hungary and does not seem to be interested in adding anything to the rumours about his future, which is the right mentality as he will want to go far for his country. Speaking recently, Kerkez said;

“I am not occupied with transfer news, the people who take care of me deal with all of that. I am only focused on Bournemouth and my performances here. I know I am young, but I know what I can do and what level I can get to, so I just have to see what happens in the future.”

Kerkez has amassed lots of interest this summer because of his pace, positional sense and ability to make darting runs. He also loves to dribble and take on defenders. These are attributes that will be beneficial for most clubs with both United and Chelsea needing that this summer.

United are reportedly seeking to bring in a left-back able to challenge Luke Shaw at the club and cover injury, which for Shaw was tough last season. It also suggests that Tyrell Malacia has not succeeded at the club and could be sold after spending the season on the sidelines to injury.

Kerkez would be a positive signing for United as despite his age, he has experience having played for AC Milan at youth level and at senior level playing for Győr, Jong AZ Alkmaar, AZ Alkmaar, and now Bournemouth. He has 57 appearances for AZ, scoring five goal and eight assists.

United will have many other players on their lists as they will need a number of options that fit the same profile which will see the club in good stead for the future, which is what supporters will be seeking this summer. A footballing plan not a business plan is the way to go for this football club.

I support Manchester United, the greatest English football team to have ever existed. Bruno Fernandes is the latest in a long line of players with great ability to play for the club. I idolised Bryan Robson, David Beckham, Paul Scholes, and Eric Cantona growing up.
