Preview: Ten Hag to give youth players the nod at Brighton? Martinez to get some fitness in? Hojlund to get another goal?

Brighton and Hove Albion -v- Manchester United

Premier League

Amex Stadium, Brighton

Sunday 19 May 2024, KO 16:00 BST

Manchester United travel to the South Coast on Sunday afternoon where they will face Brighton and Hove Albion at the Amex Stadium in the Premier League. United beat Newcastle United in the final league match at Old Trafford this season, scoring three goals, winning 3-2 in the end.

Erik ten Hag will need to keep United winning to end the season, not that it will increase their chances of anything as they look set to finish outside the top six this season and could well miss out on a European place unless they win the Emirates FA Cup next weekend. It is what it is.

United will need to start performing if they want to beat City in the FA Cup final, which will need one of the best performances of the season if that was to happen. United have a talented squad but it is the application of their skillsets and abilities that is the main problem, which is a worry at the club.

Match Prediction

United need to get players back and ready for the Emirates FA Cup final on a week’s time. Getting players minutes against Brighton will give them a head start to reaching full fitness for the Wembley clash with Manchester City on the 25th May. United need to handle this match better than last year.

Ten Hag’s future is up in the air with reports of him being sacked at the end of the season but he has two matches achieve something and winning the FA Cup would be a fitting end, if it was the end for him. That said, I would like to see him with a better footballing structure and fully fit players.

Brighton will be seeking to get the double over United, having beat them 3-1 at Old Trafford earlier in the season. United will need to be at the top of their game taking this one by the scruff of the neck as they did in the final Old Trafford match this season against Newcastle United.

I support Manchester United, the greatest English football team to have ever existed. Bruno Fernandes is the latest in a long line of players with great ability to play for the club. I idolised Bryan Robson, David Beckham, Paul Scholes, and Eric Cantona growing up.
