Manchester United will travel to Kingston upon Hull where they will face Hull City at the MKM Stadium for their opening match of the new Premier League season. United head coach Michael Carrick has led United through a busy pre-season where United faced Wrexham, Rosenborg, Atletico Madrid, Paris Saint-Germain, Leeds United and AC Milan winning three times, drawing once and losing twice.
United have made many new signings this summer including goalkeeper Karl Darlow and midfielders Andrey Santos and Youri Tielemans but the club still has some transfer business to conclude before deadline day in just under a fortnight’s time. United seem to have a number of things going on – both incoming and outgoing regarding transfers, which should excite the supporters for the news fortnight or so.

The Importance of the opening Premier League match of the season
This will be an important match for both United and Hull who will both be looking to start the new Premier League season with a win. Hull were promoted from the Championship last season, finishing sixth – in the play off places and winning the play off final, beating Middlesbrough 1-0. United finished third in the Premier League last season, after finishing 15th the previous season, returning to the UEFA Champions League.

Previous Meetings
United and Hull have not played each other competitively for almost ten years. The last meeting between the two sides was back in February 2017 played at Old Trafford and it was a 0-0 draw. In January 2017 United and Hull met in the EFL Cup semi-final with United winning 2-0 in the first leg, losing 2-1 in the second leg making the final where they beat Southampton 3-2 in the final with Zlatan Ibrahimovic scoring a brace.

Ones To Watch
Manchester United midfielders Andrey Santos and Youri Tielemans will both be seeking to make their debuts for their new club this weekend. Karl Darlow will have to wait for his first appearance in a United shirt as he is currently unavailable. Bruno Fernandes will be the main player to watch as he will be seeking to build on the record he set with 21 assists throughout the last Premier League season.
Hull City have made a number of new signings this summer, as will have been expected following their promotion from the Championship to the Premier League. Jack Butland is one of the bigger names, but his debut will have to wait as he is currently injured, as is Joe Gelhardt. In the coming weeks, Hull will have many players available, unless their head coach has some good news ahead of Saturday’s lunchtime kick off.

Manchester United Predicted XI

Hull City Predicted XI

Prediction
This will be a tough match for United as the AC Milan match last Saturday showed, there are some problems with goals being conceded as United conceded three goals in 14 minutes after taking a 2-1 lead. Against Hull, who will be looking to capitalise on United’s inability to stop goals being conceded, United will need to keep their defensive shape and hound Hull out of their area and stop them threatening.
