Manchester United captain Bruno Fernandes has told the club the signing that they need to make this summer in order to keep the right kind of players at the club ahead of the 2024/25 season. Fernandes is currently with the Portugal squad ahead of the European Championships in Germany.
Veteran goalkeeper Tom Heaton will become a free agent this summer after three years back at United after leaving as an academy graduate. Fernandes has stared his thoughts about the 38-year-old having trained with him for three years at United. It seems he wants him to stay.
United have confirmed that talks are ongoing regarding a new deal for the goalkeeping veteran this summer, but that could end at a faux pas for United who would lose a goalkeeper of considerable experience leaving Andre Onana and Altay Bayindir at the club next season.
It has already been confirmed that Heaton has linked up with the England squad this summer ahead of the European Championships in Germany with the veteran goalkeeper taking the role of a training goalkeeper to take the pressure of number one Jordan Pickford.
Heaton took to his Instagram account regarding his offer to join up with the England squad prior to the Euros in Germany, stating how honoured he was to join the squad – not that he will play for his country but to be part of the squad will have been a big deal for him.
In response to Heaton, United’s captain, Fernandes showed how much he respects the goalkeeper, saying; “Great leaders are always welcome in any place. Congratulations big man.” It gives the impression that Fernandes would like to keep Heaton around the club for a lot longer, which is good.
