Manchester United close to agreeing £50 million plus deal for Federico Chiesa but the player could reject the transfer – reports

Manchester United are apparently close to signing Fiorentina winger Federico Chiesa in a deal worth £50 million or more, according to reports. However, it is also stated that the 22-year-old could reject for various reasons which would obviously be a blow for Ole Gunnar Solskjaer this summer with the club requiring reinforcements to strengthen the squad.

Chiesa has impresses at Fiorentina ever since he came through into the senior team back in 2016 and his performances have earned him a regular place in former Manchester City manager Roberto Mancini’s Italy squad as well as receiving a lot of interest from other clubs, allegedly including United.

Italian news outlet Corriere Fiorentino has suggested that United’s interest has been strong and that the club is very close to meeting Fiorentina’s £60 million valuation of the winger this summer. However, as has been suggested by the player’s father, United would need to convince the player to move as he was not looking to move abroad.

Newcastle United are also interested in the player but United were said to be leading the race with Chiesa considered as a cut price replacement for Jadon Sancho, who United have been interested in this summer, however, might be priced out of a move for the England winger. It is suggested that Solskjaer is interested in signing a new striker, winger and defender.

Chiesa has scored seven goals and five assists in 30 appearances in Giuseppe Iachini’s side this season. The player has been at Fiorentina, nicknamed La Viola since 2007 when he joined the clubs academy, making his senior debut nine years later. He was capped by Italy for the first time in 2018, following his father, Enrico Chiesa’s footsteps.

It is not yet known whether United are in fact interested in Chiesa or whether it is convenient interest, either for click bait or for United as cover for another player they might be interested in, presuming that they have started to conduct transfer business already, despite the fact the transfer window will not open until the season has been completed.

Manchester United in ‘pole position’ to sign Fiorentina winger for £60 million – reports

Manchester United are said to be in pole position to sign Federico Chiesa from Fiorentina this summer with the player said to be worth £60 million, according to reports. United have been linked to the player on numerous occasions with Chelsea also seemingly interested in signing the player this summer.

Chiesa was once linked to the club when Jose Mourinho was the manager, so this could well be a rumour coming from that era, rather this current manager, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer being interested in the player, but that is just a thought rather than a fact. Fiorentina’s president Rocco Commisso has stated £60 million will be the fee required to acquire the player.

Italian news outlet Quotidiano has reported that United were in pole position to sign the 22-year-old this summer, who this season, before the coronavirus pandemic suspended world football has made a total of 26 appearances, scoring seven goals and five assists. However, the winger has played more as a centre-forward this season.

United are said to be the only club interested in the player that are offering cash up-front in a possible deal, which is obviously what the Italian club, or any club for that matter would want. United need to find a way of improving the attack as the right-wing position is still a problem at the club with many players seemingly failing there over the years. Commisso said:

“Chiesa? As we Americans say, the grass is always greener on the other side. Federico knows what Fiorentina is, who I am and our fans and where we want to go. Going elsewhere would be a risk for him.

“Chiesa must decide, and as I said, if he wants to leave, I’ll settle as long as the figure is right. How much is Lautaro’s release clause? €111 million? Well, I could take a million off Chiesa. No, I’m kidding. As long as the amount is right.

“I’m thinking for the good of Fiorentina. If Chiesa wants to go, our priority will be to get the right financial compensation.

“There are no vetoes for some teams. But right now, I have a splendid relationship with Federico and his father. There is a positive climate that should not be altered.”

It is a good thing that Chiesa can play on the right-wing, the left-wing and as a centre-forward – this adds something for Solskjaer, who will have Anthony Martial, Marcus Rashford, Odion Ighalo and Mason Greenwood as their main attacking players, but support is needed to get the best out fo the team and get them challenging for the Premier League title again.

Fiorentina confirm Premier League interest in 22-year-old Italian winger – reports

Manchester United were once again linked to 22-year-old Fiorentina and Italy winger Federico Chiesa last week with the Italian club confirming interest from a Premier League clubs ahead of the return to action for Serie A club next month. The player has attracted interest so far from United and Chelsea and may yet attract more.

Fiorentina director Joe Barone has confirmed interest from Premier League clubs for the player ahead of the summer transfer window, which looks to be opening later than usual this summer, after the completion of the 2019/20 season, which could be some point in July is Project Restart in the league is given the go-ahead.

This season, in 26 appearances, Chiesa has scored seven goals, assisting five more whilst playing in the Serie A and the Coppa Italia. At the time the coronavirus pandemic stopped world football, Fiorentina were 13th in the table and seemingly not looking to battle for European football during the 2020/21 season, whenever it may start.

Chiesa has been a star performer this season and it is suggested that there was always a chance that the player would leave the club during the next transfer window. This is not the first time the player has been linked to the Old Trafford club. It is suggested that both Juventus and Inter Milan are interested in the player also – he might favour staying in Italy.

Whilst there is no confirmation that United are infested in the player, he does fit some of the attributes that the club will be seeking to add to their squad during Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s rebuild of the club which started last summer with the arrival of Aaron Wan-Bissaka, Daniel James and Harry Maguire, continuing in January with the arrival of Bruno Fernandes.

Barone, reported by La Gazzetta dello Sport spoke about the speculation linking the player to Premier League clubs, also confirming that the 22-year-old is a Fiorentina player at this moment in time seemingly making a play for the interest and play8ing it down, possibly to ensure the club get the best fee they can this summer, given the climate. He said:

“[Federico] Chiesa is a Fiorentina player. There are clubs knocking at the door for Chiesa, some of them who speak English… We’ll see, for the moment we just need to finish the season and he is very concentrated on doing well for us.”

United may not see Chiesa as high up in their pursuit this summer, seemingly having Aston Villa’s Jack Grealish, Borussia Dortmund’s Jadon Sancho and Birmingham City’s Jude Bellingham in their sights ready for when the transfer window opens, in an ideal world at least. Given the coronavirus pandemic and financial repercussions, it could be difficult.

United, however, will be seeking to add the right players to their squad, no matter the current climate. It may mean that big name players are left for another time with rumours suggesting that the Sancho pursuit could be shelved until next season, leaving Solskjaer with cover and a player who could become a squad player in a year’s time.

I feel that United are in good hands with Solskjaer right now. His signings have been the best of a bad bunch over the years post-Sir Alex Ferguson, which has seen almost a billion pounds spent by the club, yet they have been lacking the quality to go with the money that has been spent. Wan-Bissaka, James, Maguire and Fernandes seem to be hits, so here’s hoping.

Fiorentina forward wanted as Manchester United and Chelsea look to gain ground – reports

Manchester United and Chelsea are going into battle to secure the signature of Fiorentina forward Federico Chiesa, according to reports. The 22-year-old could be the versatile forward both clubs are seeking this summer as the coronavirus pandemic rages on throughout world football. Both United and Chelsea will require additions this summer.

Italian news source Gazzetta Dello Sport has reported that the Italian forward is being linked top for a move to the Premier League as he enters the last two years of his contract at the Florence club. The 22-year-old joined the club as a child from U.S. Settignanese in 2007, making his first team debut in 2016.

Chiesa is described as a winger, a position that United will be seeking to add to their squad this summer but has predominantly played as a centre-forward this season, playing a total of 21 times in that position, scoring six of his seven goals from that position. He has played as a left-winger three times and a right-winger twice, scoring his other goal.

United are seeking a striker with Nigerian Odion Ighalo the supposed number one target after he joined the club on a six-month loan in January, playing eight times, scoring four goals and one assist in that time. However, the player has a lucrative offer from his club, Shanghai Shenhua, so United may nee other targets.

After selling Romelu Lukaku to Inter Milan last summer, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer chose not to reinforce his attack last summer, which was something that saw United stutter at times this season. The trio of Marcus Rashford, Anthony Martial and Mason Greenwood have done well but United needed something more up front to score more goals.

Chiesa could also be an option to play on the right wing with United reported to be hotly interested in signing Jadon Sancho from Borussia Dortmund this summer, also with Kai Havertz of Bayer Leverkusen another option. However, with Chiesa playing few games in that position, it would seem unlikely that he would be a right-wing target.

The 22-year-old is reportedly fluent in English, which adds to the speculation surrounding a move to the Premier League. He could be a good player for either United or Chelsea and is in the early stages of his career but has played 139 times at senior level for his club, scoring a total of 29 goals and a further 20 assists in all competitions.

Chelsea may be more in need of a player like Chiesa though considering that they are likely to lose Willian, Pedro and Olivier Giroud on free transfers this summer, whenever the transfer window opens. Juventus have also been credited with an interest in the Italian, along with Inter Milan with Fiorentina seeking to secure him to a new contract also.
